House style

Colour scheme - Whilst designing the website, I have realised that I need a colour scheme to use for brand elements such as the masthead, the backgrounds etc. I have tried out a warm, sandy colour on the "Get to Know Us" banner at the bottom of the page, and I think this works well, so I will find a colour palette with soft, muted colours that could work alongside different article designs.

Font - "Blue Ocean" for masthead/large headings, "Bitter" - bold, regular and light variations used for cover lines, body text and subtitles (in that order). See below for examples.

Change to masthead

After testing out my chosen font as a masthead on a cover, I found it wasn't strong enough in comparison to the photo. Therefore, I have tested other fonts that appear stronger than the first font:

Website progress

So far, on my website, I have learnt how to add a masthead and navigation page. In my home page, I have added in a gallery with some photos from the photoshoot. I hope to make them interactive so that the article will appear when the images are clicked on. I don't know if this will work with the "gallery" feature so I may have to change this.

I have also added some text to the "About Us" page in order to inform the audience about the magazine as a brand and its values. I think there is still more information to add, but this can be done later on. I would also like to add other pages too.

Contact sheet (Photoshoot)

My digital camera was used for this photoshoot, as well as my phone. I am very pleased with both photoshoots, and I am sure that many of these photos will be used in both products. I think the second photoshoot (Aled + Evie - The Crim Reapers) could look better with a brick (black brick, preferably) background, but the first photoshoot with Juno went very well - in particular, the photos on the grass.

Photo inspiration and plan for website

My website should reflect the values and style of my magazine, a high quality music magazine with the aim of uplifting up-and-coming artists from a variety of genres. I would like to include easter eggs in the form of hidden interactive features, as this was something that I thought was really good from a previous students' work and could appeal to my audience.

In my upcoming photoshoot, I hope to take initial photos for my website and magazine front cover. Even if the photos I take are not necessarily used in either one of the covers, I could still use them in my website. My main aim with the images is to reflect the genre of the models. Therefore, as seen in my pitch mood boards, one cover will be darker and more industrial for the alternative duo, and the other will be set in a more natural setting for the country singer.

So far, I have a rough idea of what my website could look like. I think it'll be unconventional in a few ways and creative. I want the website to be interactive and interesting and for it to fit a wide preferance of genres.

Below is a rough mock up created on Canva of what my website could look like. The latest magazine articles/interviews could be in sqaure bubbles, and hovering over one could open up a more detailed view of the article. Once the link is clicked on, it could lead on to a different page.
Like conventional magazines, I have chosen to have a navigation bar at the top of the page. Removing or changing this greatly could impact the website's ease of use.

I would like to get a range of poses and camera shots (some close shots, some full body or medium close ups, different angles etc.) so that I can  have a range of options for my magazine cover and website.

I like the use of the hands to frame the face here.

 - The lying down position with the outstretched arm allows us to feel closer to Sweeney (posing). Using this with my models could create a sense of a bond between the audience and the artist.

Inital photos

A few weeks ago I got some photos and videos from a live performance. These could be used on my website as intergrated social media videos and photos.
Whilst away on holiday in Poland, I got a lot of photos of the street art. These photos could be used as photos across my magazine and website - perhaps a photo collection of street art that an artist took? They could be used as part of an exclusive feature or a poster.

Magazine name

I have decided on a name: Muse.

This title will not only link to both the promotion of artists as "muses" to be appreciated and admired, but also links to the topic of the magazine - "music". This polysemic masthead title will allow the meaning and aim of my magazine to my audience.
